Also known as:- Conservation & Design, Conservation Areas, Historic Buildings, Listed Buildings
Answer: The quality of the historic environment is not just about listed buildings or conservation areas, although these are undeniably of vital importance and contribute significantly to the unique character of our area. It is the larger number of unlisted historic buildings that reinforces local distinctiveness and a sense of place. The Island's Local List of Buildings, Structures, Parks and Gardens of Architectural or Historic Interest identifies those buildings, structures, parks and gardens that contribute to the distinctiveness of the Island’s built environment. To be included on the Local List a building, structure, park or garden must satisfy set criteria, which is used by an independent review panel to assess whether a particular building, structure, park or garden’s contribution to the distinctiveness of the Island’s built environment necessitates its inclusion on the list. If you wish to nominate a building, structure, park or garden for inclusion on the Island’s Local List of Buildings, Structures, Parks or Gardens of Architectural or Historic Interest, please fill out a nomination form (available from the Conservation & Design Team or downloadable from www.iwight.com/conservation) and include the following: at least one recent photograph, the address, as much supporting information as possible regarding the building/structure's architecural or historic interest. Please send completed nomination forms to: Conservation & Design, Seaclose Offices, Fairlee Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 2QS. For further information regarding the Local List contact the Conservation & Design Team on 01983 823552 or email [email protected], alternatively visit www.iwight.com/conservation. - Related Link
