Answer: A marriage or Civil Partnerhsip requires a minimum of 2 witnesses to attend and witness the legal proceedings. The only requirement to being a witness is that the person fully understands the nature of the ceremony and, if called upon, would be able to relate to what went on at the ceremony. We recommend that in order to be able to do this each witness should be 18 yrs and over. If someone is under 18 yrs then we suggest that they sign as a third witness.
