Service Description: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Fire Safety Enforcement Officers, deal with all aspects of fire safety on business premises. If you are an employer, you should make sure you and your staff know what to do to prevent a fire in the workplace and how to escape if a fire does break out. If you're concerned about a fire risk which may be a danger to life (for instance a company or organisation disregarding safety practices) you should contact the Fire Safety Enforcement Team.

Your FAQ

Question: Who is the responsible person?

Answer: In a workplace, this is the employer and any other person who may have control of any part of the premises, for example the occupier or owner.

In all other premises the person or people in control of the premises will be responsible. If there is more than one responsible person in any type of premises, all must take all reasonable steps to work with each other.
