Pests that may become a nuisance in houses include a wide range of beetles, silverfish, earwigs and wasps. Environmental Health is not able to assist directly with pest control issues. Answer: Environmental Health does not provide a pest control/treatment service. If you have pests on your premises, it is your responsibility to treat them. As owner/occupier you have a legal duty to keep your premises free of rats and mice. And you must also ensure that other pests are treated to prevent them from causing a nuisance to neighbouring premises. To find a contractor to treat the pests, look under "Pest & Vermin Control Services" in local business listings such as Yellow Pages or The Phone Book. We can require landowners to take steps to ensure that their land is free from rats, mice and certain other pests of public health significance.
