Your FAQ

Question: What documents should I bring when giving notice for marriage or a Civil Partnership?

Answer: It is vital that a couple have decided on the venue for the ceremony i.e. Register Office or Approved Premise. It is not possible to give notice of marriage without having decided on the venue.
A non-refundable booking fee is payable to confirm the chosen venue/ date and time, this booking must be made with the Isle of Wight Register Office prior to attending to give notice of marriage.

There are a number of documents required for giving notice of marriage:

1. PROOF OF IDENTITY - a valid passport or 2 other forms of identification eg. full birth certificate, photocard driving licence, DWP Letter or HRMC Letter (dated in last 3 months) If you were born
on or after 1st January 1983 then you will also need to confirm British nationality e.g. by producing a valid UK passport or if reasonably possible, by bringing in one of your parents birth certificates to prove that he or she is a British citizen 2. If your NAME HAS CHANGED by deed poll or statutory declaration the relevant documents will need to be shown.
3. If either party has been MARRIED BEFORE proof of how the last marriages ended ie Decree absolute or death certificate.
IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO PROVIDE - PROOF OF RESIDENCE ie bank statement or utility bill. If both parties live at the same address, then each of you need to provide proof of your address.(dated in the last 3 months)
