Service Description: Occasionally, parents prefer to arrange their child’s education ‘otherwise’ than in a school, usually providing this education at home. Parents who educate their children at home may do so for a number of reasons, possibly based on firm convictions about education. The Local Authority may make enquiries in order to establish that a suitable education is being provided.

Answer: If your child is at school you must write to the head teacher and say you are withdrawing him or her for home education. If your child is registered at a special school a letter requesting withdrawal is the first step. The Local Authority has to make sure that the special needs can be met.
