Service Description: This Service is responsible for fulfilling statutory responsibilities of the Local Authority in respect of school enrolment, attendance, exclusions and juvenile employment. Question: What action does a school take if a child is absent from school?

Answer: - If the school do not hear from you on the first day of absence they will contact you.
- School will mark your child absent.
- School will investigate all unexplained absences.
- School will highlight unauthorised absences on the pupil’s annual reports.
- School will contact you should your child’s level of attendance become unsatisfactory.
- When necessary school will inform the Education Welfare Service.
