Answer: Yes, you can order one on-line or by post or by telephone. The cost is £10.00 (plus £1.00 postage). A short birth certificate only shows the name and surname of the child, the sex, date of birth, and registration district (Isle of Wight). It cannot be used for obtaining a passport, for opening a bank account, for school or college purposes, or for employers. Generally, it is better to order a full certificate at the same cost of £10.00.
