Your FAQ

Question: What is involved if a child requires a Speech and Language Therapy assessment?

Answer: Following receipt of referral information will be sought from carers and education staff as appropriate. Assessment may take place over a number of appointments, may involve a range of formal or informal assessments and may take place in different locations within the mainstream school. It will include other professionals' assessments of the child's communication skills and other areas of functioning, particularly noting the findings of the Educational Psychologist, where appropriate. As part of the assessment process the client may be referred on to another agency in order that a full and detailed assessment can be completed. Following assessment, a management decision will be made in conjunction with and following full discussion with carers and education staff taking into account the perceptions of all those involved, and will be made in the social/learning context. All other parties will be informed.
