Answer: If a pupil is excluded, his/her parents/guardians will be informed. It is very important when this happens that parents/guardians contact the school as soon as possible to try and sort out the problems. Parents/guardians working together with the school can often solve the problems that have arisen. Good practice means that headteachers inform the LEA of all exclusions. Legally if a pupil is excluded for more than 5 days in total in any one school term the LEA and Governors must be notified. In cases when the excluded period exceeds 5 school days in any one term the parents may request a meeting of the Governors Discipline Committee to review the use of exclusion. You are allowed to make representations at this meeting. If the exclusions is for 16 days or more the school has to convene such a meeting to which you will be invited. If your child is excluded you should co-operate with the school to avoid more exclusions in the future. You should explain to your child what exclusion means. - Related Link
