Answer: If you want to do works beyond your own boundary, to trees which are not on your land, you will always need the consent of the landowner. This is true whether or not the trees are protected. If the trees are protected you will need the consent of the Council. If you believe the protected tree to be dangerous you are advised to speak to the Tree Team within the Planning Department who will advise you further on what action to take (01983 823893 or e-mail [email protected]). However, even if the tree is dangerous, if the tree owner does not want to do the works, or won’t let you do them, you cannot force them to do so and nor can the Council. - Related Link
