Local Council Tax Support

Service Description: Local Council Tax Support (LCTS) is the new scheme following the abolition of Council Tax Benefit on 31 March 2013. LCTS helps people on low income pay their Council Tax. If awarded, LCTS is deducted from your Council Tax liability, reducing your bill. To claim LCTS you must be the person liable to pay the council tax bill for a property.

Your FAQ

Question: Will there be a scheme similar to the Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP) fund available if I am unable to afford the amount I now have to pay?

Answer: The government has announced that the existing DHP Scheme will only be available in respect of housing benefit from 1 Apr 2013. There will be no provision for a discretionary payment fund for local council tax support
