Service Description: This Service is responsible for fulfilling statutory responsibilities of the Local Authority in respect of school enrolment, attendance, exclusions and juvenile employment. Question: What does a matron’s duties involve?

Answer: As well as keeping the children comfortable and occupied between working periods, the matron (chaperone)’s duties involves:
- monitoring and recording all the times that the children are working, having a break or having lessons
- ensuring suitable travel arrangements are in place
- a child is collected by the person previously agreed
- keeping a complete register if the children with emergency contact numbers. The LEA may wish to examine this.
- recording any injury or accident and informing the parent and LEA at the earliest opportunity.
