Disabled Parking Bays

Service Description: The provision of on-street disabled parking bays. Applications for disabled bays can be submitted to the Network Management and Improvement section of the Highways Department. However, due to a large backlog of applications, limited resources and budget restrictions, there is a lengthy waiting list and it is not possible to give timescales as to when a bay will be painted. Alternatively, you can pay to have a disabled bay, although the timescale from receiving the application to the painting of the bay is currently around 2-3 months.

Your FAQ

Question: What are the sizes of disabled bays?

Answer: The residential bays are normally painted at 5.5 metres if the bay is upto a driveway or double yellow lines etc and at 6 metres if cars are able to park either side of it.

Disabled bays with Traffic Regulation Orders on them must be painted at a minimum of 6.6 metres in length and between 2.7 metres and 3.6 metres in width.
