Fostering


Service Description: Fostering is substitute family care for children and young people who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to live with their own families. Services available via the Fostering Service are Long Term Fostering, Short Term Fostering, Respite Care, Day Care Providers, Family Link and Combined Accomodation Scheme (CAS). The service currently consists of 3 Units and a Fostering Duty Worker.

Question: What is the definition of a privately fostered child?

Answer: The Childrens Act 1989 defines a privately fostered child as ' a child who is under the age of 16 (under 18 if they are disabled) and who is cared for and accommodated for 28 consecutive days or more by someone other than a parent, other persons with a parental responsibility or a close relative (such as a grandparent, brother, sister, uncle or aunt (whether of full blood or half blood or by affinity,) or a step parent.) - Related Link
