Service Description: All schools should have a written policy setting out the standards of behaviour it expects. The policy should outline what the school will do if a pupil’s behaviour falls below these standards. Schools may use exclusion as a way of managing the behaviour of pupils. It is also used as a way of giving clear messages to the pupil involved and the whole school community, that certain kinds of behaviour are unacceptable. Answer: The headteacher will try to speak to you to tell you about the exclusion in person. He/she will also write to you to tell you about the exclusion and the reasons for it, and will advise you about your right to make representations to the Discipline Committee. The letter should set out who you should contact if you wish to state your case (usually the Clerk to the Committee) the latest date that you can put a written statement to the Discipline Committee and your right to see your child’s school records. - Related Link
