Service Description: FIZ - the Family Information Zone - was set up in 1998 to provide impartial information and signposting services to families, children and young people under the age of 20 years (or up to 25 years for young people who have learning difficulties or disabilities). FIZ provides comprehensive information on childcare and early years services. This includes information on registered childcare, non-registered childcare (those exempt from Ofsted registration) and free entitlement to early years provision. FIZ has a key role in ensuring that parents and carers have appropriate information to make decisions on the suitability of childcare providers to meet their needs. FIZ can offer additional support if requested but can not make recommendations. Our shop in Newport is also a delivery outlet for the Health Promotions CD Scheme. Information is provided on other services, facilities and publications. This includes information on: Local and national support groups Events Sports activities Education Leisure activities We also hold leaflets and publications on many subjects relevant to families, parents, children and young people. FIZ produces activity booklets for the Christmas, Easter and summer holidays. Each booklet lists holiday activities available across the Island for families, children and young people. If you would like to be added to our mailing list and receive your free copy please contact us. Every attempt is made to ensure accuracy, although we attempt no responsibility for our information source. Information is updated on a regular basis. FIZ maintains a website called WightChYPS which is the local authority's Family Service Directory (FSD). A service directory is a comprehensive online information bank of all types of children's and young people's services available in a local area. It includes a broad range of services from providers in voluntary, private and statutory agencies. WightChYPS has been created as a complete directory of services for children and young people across the Isle of Wight.
