Your FAQ

Question: Why can't I put tetra-paks in my wheelie bin/clear bags of recyclable waste?

Answer: Whilst Tetra Paks are recyclable they have to be collected separately and recycled through a separate process from other packaging materials. Where tetra paks are collected by Local Authorities, this is done through separate collection points to ensure the segregation. At present the level of tetra paks that are likely to be collected – if a separate collection option was provided – would be relatively low’ making it uneconomic. The residual waste from black bags of non-recyclable waste does go forward to processing for fuel for the gasification plant and therefore tetra pak waste would be sent through this process rather than going to landfill.
