Service Description: The Educational Psychology Service is currently being provided in conjunction with Southampton City Council Psychology Service to provide cover for statutory work and cases involving safeguarding. Requests for EPS involvement need to be within this context and should be made via school in liaison with parents, providing comprehensive evidence to support the referral. Statutory assessment is intended for those children with the most severe, complex and long-term special educational needs. Schools provide evidence of severity of need to the Local Authority SEN Panel - the evidence needs to include an EP assessment undertaken within the year prior to the request.

Answer: In a very few cases, after intervention at School Action and School Action Plus, consideration will be given to requesting a Statutory Assessment of your child's special educational needs. This process is controlled by the Local Authority and might result in a 'Statement of Special Educational Needs'.
