Service Description: Each year in the United Kingdom, approximately 2 million vehicles reach the end of their life, either through age or becoming unusable after involvement in an accident, however, around 3 million vehicles are abandoned in England each year. Abandoned vehicles are expensive to remove, have a negative impact on the environment, look unsightly and can lower the quality of life in neighbourhoods.
Also known as:- Un-taxed Vehicles
Answer: If your car has been moved you should contact the Abandoned Vehicle Officer 01983 823777 and the Police 0845 045 4545 to see if has been picked up. If the Council has removed the vehicle you can get it back provided it has not already be destroyed, but only if you pay the Statutory charges and provide evidence that you are the registered keeper. The Council works closely with the Police to check if abandoned vehicles have been stolen, but if we have removed your stolen vehicle then the charges will normally be paid by your insurance company provided you have notified the Police and the Insurance Company of the theft.
