Service Description: Weather data is collected by two remote weather stations on the island and is used primarily for ice on road warnings to alert our gritting fleet over the winter period. However, it is recognised that weather data plays an important part in the movement of shipping & small craft around the Isle of Wight, being in close proximity to the shipping lanes for the ports of Southampton & Portsmouth. Port authorities provide access to current tidal and weather information for shipping within the local area and in national (sometimes international) waters.
