Data Sharing
The Council is under a duty to protect the public funds it administers, and to this end may use creditor payment information for the prevention and detection of fraud. It may also share this information with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds for these purposes.The Council is required under section 6 of the Audit Commission Act 1998 to participate in the National Fraud Initiative (NFI) data matching exercise. Creditor payment data will be provided to the Audit Commission for NFI and will be used for cross-system and cross-authority comparison with other relevant organisations’ data for the prevention and detection of fraud. The processing of data by the Commission in a data matching exercise is carried out with statutory authority under its powers in Part IIA of the Audit Commission Act 1998. Transparency
The Department for Communities & Local Government has introduced a requirement for Local Authorities to publish details of payments over £500 (net of VAT). Suppliers to the Council should be aware that the following spend information is published on the Council’s website on a monthly basis:
- The Supplier
- Transaction date,
- Amount paid,
- Payment reference number,
- Expenditure type description
- Originating business unit (e.g. our service authorising payment).
