Completing the Register of Electors Form.

During late August every household on the Island should receive an Annual Canvass Form for the Register of Electors. If you do not receive one, please Contact Us and we will send you a blank form to fill in.

Filling in the form is easy! Please read through the points below which will answer most of your questions, but if you need any further help please telephone 01983 821000.

• Please use Black Ink and BLOCK CAPITALS when completing the form.

• All electors are required to give their Nationality.

• We need to know the details of everyone living at the address shown on the form on the 15^th October - but the form should be sent back straight away if the details are unlikely to change.

• If names need to be removed, then they should be crossed out with a single black line through the name(s).

• If no-one is eligible to be Registered, you should cross out any names pre-printed, and tick one of the four boxes in Section 3, which will tell us why no one should be Registered.

• If you have not received a form, please inform Electoral Services so that a replacement can be issued. (See Contact Us page).

• For electors who are 70 or over, please tick the "Jury Service Exemption" column. If this column already has a tick pre-printed, this indicates that we know that person is 70 or over already. Only electors who are 70 or over should tick this column; if you cannot perform Jury Service for any other reason you can state this if you receive a Jury Summons.

• For people who are 16 and 17 years of age only, please add their details in Section 2. They may vote once they are 18.

• For electors who wish their name to be Excluded from the Edited Register (this is the register which can be sold to anyone), you need to tick the "Edited Register" column. (One tick for each person who doesn't want to be included on the Edited Register). Everyone will be included on the Full Register, and all electors must make this choice anew each year.

• If you would like us to send you a postal vote application form, please tick the "Postal Vote" column; a postal vote application form will then be sent to you shortly. A pre-printed tick indicates that you already have a permanent postal vote.

• Services Electors (Army, Navy, etc.) - These electors should not be included on the form. Service electors may now Register as Civilians, and still have a postal or proxy vote. Please contact us for more details.

• Overseas Electors - These electors should not be included on the form.

• Working away from home? - If you are working away from home for six months or less you can be included on the form.

• Students - can be registered at both their parents' home and at their term time address (university residence, shared house etc).

• Moving house - on or before the 15^th October? Please leave the form at your property. You should find a new form waiting at your new address. In the event that a form has not been left at your new address please contact us and we will send you a blank form.

• Moving house - after the 15^th October? You should complete the household form for your current address and you can amend your details once you've moved by completing individual Rolling Registration Forms.

• Tourists - Persons staying on holiday should not be included.

• Commonwealth Citizens can add themselves to the Register via the form. If you are unsure whether you do come from a Commonwealth Country, please put your nationality on the form and Electoral Services will add you to the Register if you are eligible.

• Citizens of all 25 European Union nations should be included - and again, you must enter your Nationality.

• Torn/ Damaged forms - if the form is beyond repair, then please contact us and we will send a replacement.

• Please ensure you sign and date the form before you send it back to us - we cannot amend your details if you do not do this.
