Police and Crime Commissioner Election –

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election for the Hampshire Police Area (which includes the Isle of Wight) was held on Thursday 15 November 2012.
The Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) for the PCC election for the Hampshire Police Area is Mark Heath. He is responsible for the co-ordination of this election across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Local returning officers are responsible for queries regarding voter registration, postal votes and count arrangements in their area. Contact details for Electoral Services can be found further down the page.

Candidates and Nominations
Nominations closed on 19 November, and the candidates are listed in the Statement of Persons Nominated (above).
Each candidate needed to collect signatures and elector numbers from a proposer, a seconder and 98 subscribers – all of whom must be registered to vote in the Hampshire police area. A deposit of £5,000 was also required.

The supplementary vote system
These elections will use the supplementary vote system; Under this system voters will be able to vote for a first and a second choice candidate
.
If no candidate has 50 per cent of the first preference votes counted, the two candidates with the highest number of first preference votes go forward to a second round.
In the second round of counting, the second preference of the candidates not finishing first or second are counted and redistributed to the two candidates with the highest number of first preference votes.
