The Isle Of Wight Council has commenced a Community Governance Review of the Isle Of Wight Council Local Authority Area.
The Community Governance Review will cover all aspects relating to boundaries and electoral arrangements of Parish and Town Councils on the Isle of Wight, and a copy of the Notice, which includes the Terms of Reference for the review,
can be viewed by clicking here. The ultimate aim of such a review is to secure effective and convenient local government, which represents the identities and interests of local communities.
To allow plenty of time for interested parties to consider a submission over the summer period, a date of 1
st October 2010 has been set for initial submissions to be made, and there will be a further period for comments to be made on the Draft Recommendations when they are published on 30
th November 2010.
Any alterations to any aspect of boundaries or electoral arrangements will take effect from the 2013 local elections, with the exception of simple changes of name to Civil Parishes and associated Parish Councils, which will take effect as soon as the Order is made, hopefully in spring 2011.
Where any changes have been made to electoral arrangements within the last five years, the Isle of Wight Council will need to seek the agreement of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England before implementing those changes, but this process will not prevent anyone from putting forward suggestions for alterations. A list of Parish and Town Councils whose electoral arrangements are affected is shown below.
Detailed guidance on how Community Governance Reviews are conducted can be found at:
