If you are unsure, you can check what your waste collection day is.

All recyclable waste that is collected in your wheelie bins or clear plastic sacks are taken to Lynbottom near Newport. Here it is stored in a large building and then loaded onto transport vehicles where it is taken to a state-of-the-art recycling facility to be recycled.

Any “black bag” non-recyclable waste is taken to the RRF where materials are separated.

Food waste is also taken here and processed through the gasification plant. Any waste than cannot be recycled, such as nappies, is sent to landfill.

Fuel from the resource recovery facility is fed into the gasification plant situated at Forest Road in Newport. The plant uses approximately 30,000 tonnes of fuel per year and generate enough electricity to supply around 2000 homes.

Gasification is a 2 stage process:
Firstly, the floc fuel is burnt to produce combustible gases.
Secondly, the heat from the gases is recovered and used to generate electricity.
