The Parks & Beaches Department undertake the management and maintenance of ‘free to use’ Council assets that have an amenity or visual amenity value. These are the Islands best and most used natural assets that are used for enjoyment of Islanders and tourists alike. The Parks Department are responsible for the management and maintenance of over 160 Public Parks, Gardens, Open Spaces, Sports Grounds and Amenity Areas which equate to over 180 hectres: | |

13 Recreational Grounds;
36 Playgrounds/ Paddling Pools;
160 Public Open Spaces;
and the Medina Arboretum at Newport
The Parks Department also offers a ‘dedicated tree’ program at Medina Arboretum and selected sites throughout the island and also a ‘dedicated seat’ programme throughout the Parks network.
We take great pride in the management of our Public Parks and Open Spaces on the Island and invite everyone to come and enjoy the outdoors with their family and friends.
Our mission is to provide quality park facilities for residents and visitors to the island, to improve quality of life and provide a positive impact that will encourage continual use.
The Isle of Wight’s Parks and Beaches Department offers a wide range of parks and recreation grounds throughout the island. A wide range of facilities are provided for variety of different age groups throughout the island. Why not visit historic Puckpool, award winning Ventnor or use the recreational facilities at Seaclose Park.
PLAYGROUNDS/PADDLING POOLS
For many children a trip to a playground is inspirational and magical, providing hours of fun and activity for children.
The Parks Department is responsible for the management of 36 playgrounds through out the Island. Our playgrounds are suitable for a broad range of different age groups, with many playgrounds being individually designed to enhance the surrounding environment.
PARKS
All parks should be interesting and fun for all the family. The island has a network of 13 principle park areas throughout the Island, providing a wide range of different facilities and experiences. The convenience and enjoyment of our parks and facilities, is one of the department’s main objectives. People are encouraged to visit our parks to enjoy the historic sites such as Puckpool Park, Northwood House etc., or the award winning landscape gardens at Ventnor Park.
RECREATION GROUNDS/OPEN SPACES
The Parks Department manage 11 sports grounds and various open spaces through out the Island, providing a vast range of different sporting activities and recreation opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Our mission is to encourage and improve the health of residents and visitors of all ages, by developing and managing sports and recreation facilities to a very high standard.
Many local clubs and organisations enjoy the recreation grounds for sporting and social activities and can be accessed by members of the public at any time. However these sites can also be booked for special events by clubs or any member of the public by contacting our Amenity Land Hire section.
