Adopted and Unadopted Roads

The Highway authority is responsible for the routine inspection and maintenance of all publicly maintainable (or adopted) highways on the Island.

A number of Inspections are carried out by a team of Highway Inspectors on a scheduled basis, who identify any essential works that may be required to maintain the highway in safe condition.

*The Maintenance of private (unadopted) roads is usually the responsibility of the Landowner. Private roads may or may not be subject to public rights of way.***
