St Boniface

BonchurchChurchRecords00

Old Church – Bonchurch W H Davenport Adams c 1856

Illustrations Collection Reference BON199

There are two churches in the parish of Bonchurch, both called St Boniface. The earlier one, dating back to 1070, served as the parish church until it became too small to accommodate the growing population. In 1848 a second and larger church was constructed to the design of Benjamin Ferry. St Blasius’ church in the parish of Shanklin was annexed to Bonchurch until it became independent in the nineteenth century.
