COUNCIL TAX DISCOUNTS

Single Person Discount
The full Council Tax is based on two adults (18 years and over) living in a property. If only one adult lives in a property as their main home, they will be entitled to a reduction of 25% off their Council Tax. Please note that a person may be absent for long or short periods and still be counted as a resident. If you are unsure as to whether you are entitled to this discount, please contact our Customer Enquiries staff who will be pleased to help you.

Disregarded Persons
Some people will be disregarded when counting the number of resident adults in a household.

Severely Mentally Impaired

Care Workers
Care workers on low pay, usually charity workers.

Care Providers
Care providers caring for someone with a disability etc.

For the following disregarded persons

Please select the appropriate box, click on submit at the bottom of the page and complete the Disregard Claim Form.
School and College Leavers (certain 18 and 19 year olds) - Please supply the date full time course ended, date of birth and name of school/college last attended.
Student / Student Nurse (Full time) - Please supply a Student Certificate and address of college / university.
YTS / Certain Government Trainees - Please supply start date and expected end date of training. Employers name and address.
Prisoners (except those in prison for non-payment of Council Tax or a fine) - Please supply address of prison and dates of sentence.
Residents of Care Homes - Please supply date of entry, address of care home, expected length of stay.
Persons aged 18 where Child Benefit is still in payment - Please supply child benefit book and expected end date.
Members of religious communities (monks and nuns) - Please supply address of community, name of leader and date of entry.
Residents of certain night hostels or night shelters.
Members of Visiting Forces and certain International Institutions.
