One of the UK's most popular and well known actors is returning to the Isle of Wight as part of the 15th annual Isle of Wight Walking Festival in May.
Brian Blessed, star of iconic films such as Flash Gordon and Henry V, as well as famous TV series Z Cars and Black Adder, will be at Medina Theatre on 5 May. As well as his acting credentials, Brian is just as well known for being an adventurer. Adventurer He climbed Mont Blanc at the age of seventeen, and he has remained an active mountaineer throughout his life. He has tried to climb Mount Everest on thee separate occasions and during his attempt in 1993, the then 56-year old climbed higher than any other man of his age until the record was broken by Sir Ranulph Fiennes in 2009. He has successful climbed Aconcagua in Argentina as well as Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. During his previous visit to the Isle of Wight Walking Festival in 2010, Brian spoke to a sell-out crowd at Medina Theatre, and tickets are expected to again sell out fast. "As well as his acting career, he has many fascinating stories about his adventurer past, including stories about Yetis and how age is no barrier to climbing mountains. Tickets are £18.50 each or £15 with concessions. This year's Isle of Wight Walking Festival takes place between 7 - 22 May, and a full programme will be published early February. Variety of walks Since it began in 1999, the two-week Isle of Wight Walking Festival, which is organised by the Isle of Wight Council, has become a major event and has put the Island on the map as a serious walking destination. Many of the walks taking place are free and range from easy flat walking to challenging slopes more suited to keen walkers and those who are reasonably active.
