Flood alerts for the Isle of Wight

Residents on the Isle of Wight living in areas prone to flooding are being advised to take appropriate precautions to protect their properties.

The Met Office is forecasting heavy rain and high winds at times over the next few days and this combined with high tides has the potential to cause coastal flooding in some areas.

The Isle of Wight Council will make sand bags available for collection at the following locations by mid-morning tomorrow (Friday 14 December).

• Cowes: St Mary’s car park.

• East Cowes: Well Road roundabout/junction with Castle Road.

• Ryde: Westhill Road/junction with The Strand.

• Yarmouth: long stay car park.

• Newport: The junction of Quay Street/Sea Street.

The council’s Facebook and Twitter feeds will be regularly updated over the weekend. These can be found at www.facebook.com/isleofwightcouncil and www.twitter.com/iwight

For more information, members of the public can call Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
