Dropped kerb works to begin in various towns

A programme of work to install dropped kerb crossing points at eleven locations across the Island is underway.

The work by the Isle of Wight Council will make crossing easier for those with mobility issues, the elderly and those with prams. It will be undertaken between now and the end of March.

The sites have been identified following requests from members of the public and from elected representatives.

The work is the latest phase of a comprehensive and on-going programme that has seen hundreds of these crossings installed throughout the Island.

Edward Giles, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member responsible for highways said; “Each dropped kerb is a relatively small scheme but we know from residents feedback that they can make a very real difference to a many people who use the roads and pavements.”

The dropped kerbs are to be installed at the following locations:

RYDE: Partlands Close, Marina Avenue, Appley Road, Adelaide Place, Ratcliffe Avenue, St Thomas’ Street, five locations in Marlborough Road and four locations at the junction of West Street/Arthur Street

VENTNOR: Two locations in the High Street

FRESHWATER: Solent Gardens

SANDOWN: Two locations in Salisbury Way

The kerbs will be installed to help make it easier for users following requests made to the council
