National Libraries Day marked on the Island

The Isle of Wight Council's library service is holding a number of events across the Island to mark National Libraries Day on Saturday 9 February.

Activities are taking place in all of the council's six libraries.
 
Lord Louis Library in Newport is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice by holding a quiz with tea and coffee available between 2pm and 4pm.

Events
 
Ryde Library is holding the first of its regular tea parties in the afternoon between 2 and 4.30. The library is also showing customers about a new free e-magazine service where users can download a variety of magazines to read on your our computer, tablet device or smart phone. 
 
Freshwater Library is inviting people to come along and learn about its online services, including how to access resources to teach a variety of languages free of charge.
 
Ventnor will be celebrating with a 'time and space theme' with music and readings.

Refreshments
 
Cowes Library will hold a children’s games club in the morning between 10.30 and 12.00.  There will also be help on hand to show you how to use many of the library's online services.
 
Sandown Library will be providing free tea or coffee and also showing visitors the wide variety of services it has, including free books, free Internet access and free online services to use at home or on the move.  
 
The council would like to thank the Friends’ Groups for helping by supporting these activities with their time.
 
You can also call in to one of the community libraries on the island, Bembridge, Brighstone, East Cowes, Edward Edwards (Niton) and Shanklin. 

On National Libraries Day, Shanklin Library will be launching its new opening hours, come and see what else these libraries have to offer.  All of the online services mentioned here are available in the community libraries as well as in the six council run libraries.

Amnesty
 
If you have had books out for a long time and are worried about bringing them back, you can take advantage of a fines amnesty in all 11 Isle of Wight libraries, including the community libraries.
