REVIEW OF THE USE OF CONSULTANTS

HEAD OF SELECT COMMITTEE AND BEST VALUE SUPPORT

REASON FOR SELECT COMMITTEE CONSIDERATION

At the last meeting on the 5th July Members requested that a draft scope for a review of the use of consultants within the Council be brought to the next meeting.

ACTION REQUIRED BY THE SELECT COMMITTEE

  1. To agree or amend the draft outline scope for the review.
  2. To appoint 2 or 3 Members to form a task group to steer the review.

BACKGROUND

This review has arisen from concerns about the amount of work which is carried out by consultants, and the public perception of their use.

RELEVANT PLANS, POLICIES, STRATEGIES AND PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Re-employment Following Early Retirement/Redundancy

CONSULTATION PROCESS

The public's views have been expressed to individual Members, and more formally through the budget consultation last Autumn.

Further work will be carried out with a range of Council departments which use consultants.

FINANCIAL, LEGAL, CRIME AND DISORDER IMPLICATIONS

This will be dependent on the outcome of the review, but none are envisaged at this stage.
