SOCIAL SERVICES, HOUSING AND BENEFITS SELECT COMMITTEE – 8 MAY 2003

HOMELESSNESS MONITORING AND NOMINATION STATISTICS

REPORT OF THE HEAD OF HOUSING SERVICES

REASON FOR SELECT COMMITTEE CONSIDERATION

This report gives members the opportunity to receive Homeless Monitoring and Nomination Statistics for March (month 12) for scrutiny purposes

BACKGROUND

Attached at Appendix 1, are the monthly Homeless statistics, and at Appendix 2 the monthly Homeless Nomination statistics for March (month 12). In addition at Appendix 3 are the B&B statistics, showing the figures being monitored by the Government B&B Unit.

Members agreed to continue to receive data in the chart format subject to some fine-tuning. The group set up to oversee this process has yet to meet, but will hopefully do so in the near future. In the interim, some changes have been made.

Members will note from the data that numbers of households in bed and breakfast continues to fall. The position is generally inline with the agreed ODPM milestones

The number of leased properties also continued to increase while the number of households ‘homeless at home’ reduced.
