PLAN FOLLOWING THE INSPECTION OF SOCIAL CARE SERVICES FOR OLDER PEOPLE
REPORT OF THE ACTING STRATEGIC DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL SERVICES AND HOUSING
1.
SUMMARY/PURPOSE
The Social Services Inspectorate
(SSI) carried out an inspection of social care services for older people from
the 18th to 28th June 2002. The objective of this assessment was to evaluate:
·
The Isle of Wight’s social service implementation of national and local
objectives relating to the social care needs of older people.
·
The quality of outcomes for service users and their carers.
This report presents the action plan
based on the recommendations of the inspectors; it identifies timescales and
names the responsible officer/s who need to ensure that the tasks are carried
out.
2.
BACKGROUND
The SSI is a
professional division within the Department of Health set up to carry out a
number of tasks including inspecting the quality of social care services. As
such they inspect all services provided by social services. In forming a view
on a service they evaluate the service against standards based on regulations
and guidance, speak to service users their carers and employees. They collect
and analyze information from a number of sources. The judgments they form are
fed back to government ministers and, after presentation to committee, are made
accessible to the public.
This action plan
is a checklist and plan for taking forward the SSI’s recommendations to the
council.
3.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
There are no
significant financial implications resulting from the SSI’s recommendations
that are in access of expenditure plans already in existence.
4.
