Title :              HEALTHY WORKFORCE STRATEGY

REPORT OF THE PORTFOLIO HOLDER FOR RESOURCES

SUMMARY/PURPOSE

This report seeks the support and formal adoption, by the Council’s Executive, of the Healthy Workforce Strategy.

BACKGROUND

Employee ill-health can seriously affect the ability of the Council to deliver high-quality services. Ill health means costs in management time and service efficiency, the wasteful loss of skilled and experienced staff and, not least, hard cash. Although the Council’s sickness absence is below the local authority average, there is an underlying increasing trend. The Healthy Workforce Strategy is aimed at improving the health of the Council’s employees and reducing absence within the workforce. A copy of the Strategy is attached at Appendix 1.
