REPORT OF THE STRATEGIC DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

INTRODUCTION

Under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 each local education authority is required, yearly, to produce a School Organisation Plan (SOP )showing how it intends to match supply and demand for school places over a five year period. It should not deal with details of projects at particular schools. Attached is the Island=s Draft School Organisation Plan for the years 2002/2003 to 2006/2007 which was published on 12 April 2002 for a two month consultation period ending on 14 June 2002.

A copy of the Plan is attached for members of the committee only. However the Plan can be viewed on the web at the following address - http://edunet.iow.gov.uk/the_lea/policies_plans/School_Organisation_Plan/default.asp

It is now necessary for the School Organisation Committee (SOC) to agree the Plan subject to any objections received in writing during the period of consultation.

OBJECTIONS

No objections have been received during the consultation period.

RECOMMENDATION

That the Draft School Organisation Plan 2002/ 2003 to 2006/ 2007 be approved.
