If
you like Harry Potter, then why not try...?

Like the Harry Potter books, all the
books in this list are very funny, as well as having a good magical plot to keep
you gripped.
- Diana Wynne Jones has written lots and
lots of books, set in a lot of different worlds. The Chestomanci series is a
good place to start. Try Charmed Life first, or maybe Witch Week.
- Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer. This is
a new series, and they're already talking about filming it. Artemis Fowl is a 12
year old criminal mastermind, who's taking on a gang of fairies who are armed
and dangerous.
- Pure Dead Magic, by Debi Gliori
- The Secret of Platform 13 by Eve
Ibbotson
- Under the Cat's Eye by Gillian
Rubenstein This is about a school that is very much more than it seems
- The Boggart by Susan Cooper A
mischievous Scottish sprite stows away in a computer, and causes chaos. There is
also The Boggart and the Monster, where the boggart meets the Loch Ness monster
- Terry Pratchett
- Bartlett series by Odo Hirsch. Don't
be put off by the dull covers, since, inside, these stories are great fun.
- The Demon Headmaster series by Gillian
Cross.
- The Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat
O'Shea
