Mandatory relief is only available to the sole Post Office or General Store within a designated rural area which has a population of less than 3,000 and the property has a rateable value under �8,500.

A General Store is defined as one in which a trade or business consisting wholly or mainly of the sale by retail of both food for human consumption (excluding confectionery) and general household goods is carried out.
