Challenge and Adventure

Challenge and Adventure is a registered charity which was set up in 1992 to support and help vulnerable and disadvantaged young people on the Isle of Wight by engaging them in positive activities.

They work with young people aged from 11 to 16 who are referred to them by agencies on the Island.

Island Youth Water Activities Centre (IYWAC)

Whitegates, Arctic Road, Cowes, Isle of Wight. PO30 7PG

IYWAC offer a range of positive activities over an 8 - 10 week "Challenge" period such as camping, mountain biking, climbing, water sports, archery, hiking etc.

They are a registered charity (2734008) operating for the benefit of young people (aged 9 -19) on the Isle of Wight. Their prime aim is to provide a variety of water-based experiences, which combine challenge, safety and enjoyment for young people on the Island. Subsidised rates available to IOW young people.

Activities:

  • Short courses at weekends and in the evening
  • Five-day courses during the school holidays
  • Dinghy Sailing – From novice to instructor
  • Kayaking – from novice to instructor
  • Canoeing- from novice to intermediate
  • Yacht Sailing – Cruising course and racing events
  • Powerboat Driving – from novice to advanced
  • Group activities

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a Registered Charity No: 1072490. They aim to create a world where young people can reach their full potential whatever their circumstances.  Their ethos is to enable every young person of every background to do their DofE and succeed, regardless of any barriers.

They provide a balanced programme of activities that develops the whole person – mind, body and soul – in an environment of social interaction and teamworking.

The scheme operates on the Island from a number of venues - Newport, Ryde, Sandown and Cowes. Please call for times & venues.
