Business Fire Safety

Service Description: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Fire Safety Enforcement Officers, deal with all aspects of fire safety on business premises. If you are an employer, you should make sure you and your staff know what to do to prevent a fire in the workplace and how to escape if a fire does break out. If you're concerned about a fire risk which may be a danger to life (for instance a company or organisation disregarding safety practices) you should contact the Fire Safety Enforcement Team.

Also known as:- Arson Reduction, Fire Awareness, Fire Legislation, Fire Risk Assessment, Fire Safety, Fire Safety Order

Your FAQ

Question: Should I wait for the Fire Officer to visit and identify any action required?

Answer: No. You will need to prepare a fire risk assessment and emergency plan.

The findings of the risk assessment must be recorded where:

1) A licence under an enactment is in force
2) An Alterations Notice under the Fire Service Order requires it
3) You are an employer and have five or more employees

The risk assessment must cover both employees and any other relevant person. This may include employees of other employers, as well as visitors, contractors etc. An inspecting officer will expect to see your risk assessment and emergency plan when an inspection is carried out.
