Service Description: Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit are benefits paid by Local Authorities to help towards the cost or Rent and Council Tax. Council Tax Benefit will be replaced on 1 April 2013 by the new Council Tax Support Scheme.

Question: How will the changes to the Housing Benefit legislation from 1 January 2012 for the under 35 age group affect me.

Answer: From January 2012 the age threshold for Shared Acccommodation Rate is to apply to those aged under 35 unless they fall into an exempt category.
