1. THE ISLE OF WIGHT COUNCIL (MAYFIELD ROAD, RYDE, IW) (ONE WAY TRAFFIC) ORDER No 1 2002
SUMMARY
An order to introduce a one-way traffic Order was advertised in April 2002 and the following representations have been received.
A total of 7 letters of objection have been received. The grounds for objection are:
The migratory impact of vehicle movements in Pell Lane will have a negative impact on road safety. (3)
The proposed one way system have result in higher vehicle speeds in the area.(5)
The proposed Order will result in an increase in rat running traffic in a southerly direction. (1)
The proposed Order will create an unfair disadvantage to the frontagers who will be forced to take a lengthy diversion en-route to and from the properties. (3)
EVALUATION
During October 2001 a meeting was held at Mayfield Middle School, with the local councillor and the residents of the area to consider a number of road safety concerns and where possible agree a programme of remedial works.
It was agreed that a one-way Order should be introduced in an attempt to address the numbers of rat running vehicles that were seen to be a major concern.
As the merits of such a proposal cannot be fully appraised without introducing the proposed one-way system it is recommended the Order be implemented as advertised with condition that the matter is reviewed after six months.
