Former Putting Green fenced and gated with fee charged for use.

Land to south used by GSC for storage of dinghies therefore not available for recreational use by local inhabitants. Permission given by MBC for use prior 1990. (Documentary evidence/meetings listed)

The beach falls below high water mark and is leased to IWC by the Crown. Use is by permission. Three statements included in support.

Applications ill founded. Land acquired under S164 of Public Health Act 1875 is public open space and public have access by right therefore prescriptive rights for village green cannot arise. Provision of putting green reinforces land open space.

Use not predominantly by local inhabitants but used equally by visitors.

Beach covered by water twice a day.

Areas fenced during SW operational and construction works breaking continuity of 20 year period.

No objection to registration of former putting green.

The Esplanade and land to south has not been used as of right.

Registration of beach would affect areas of private ownership.

Main Green used by visiting sailors attending Cowes Dinghy Week since 1970.

Land to south used by Gurnard Sailing Club for dinghy storage since 1986 and signs erected indicating restricted access.

Beach and foreshore owned and managed by the Crown Commissioners.

Former Putting Green area fenced and hut with attendant collected fees.

Land to south fenced for boat storage.

6.        Mrs Deegan (Bouldnor)

Land to south used by Gurnard Sailing Club and not available for public recreation. Parked boat on site between 1984 and 1987. Area fenced off and notices displayed that private dinghy park.

Land used by visitors from mainland.

7.        Royal Yachting Association

Concern about possible loss of storage area for dinghies which would reduce activities of Gurnard Sailing Club. In particular impact on national events such as Cowes Dinghy Week and effect on training Olympic sailors.

Land to south used by Gurnard Sailing Club preventing use by others for sport and pastimes. Recalls in late 1980's dinghy park full with boats stored to grass bank at top. Beach is Crown land and registration would restrict management and sea defences.

Land to south used by Gurnard Sailing Club restricting use by others for recreation. In 1987 and 1988 stored own dinghy on lower part of site from May to October. From 1970's during Dinghy Week (July) mainland sailors kept boats in dinghy park and used foreshore.

Land to south used as dinghy park since 1985. Fenced by Sailing Club in 1986.

From 1989 land to south fenced off as boat park with notices on display therefore not available for sport and pastimes. Personally used one or more of boat storage areas since 1970. Housed Catamarans on the land continuously from 1989-2000.

Application 3 - The Beach

Land to south used by Sailing Club. Site developed in late 1980's and full length fence erected on eastern boundary.

Parked boat on site between 1986 to 1994.

Registration of beach will restrict management of foreshore.

13.      Mr Bean (Cowes)

Land to south fenced off and used by Sailing Club members to store dinghies. In 1986 chain link fence erected from steps at road down to point adjacent old public toilets. Gate not installed.

Beach used by visitors from outside area. Sailing Club provides organised dinghy sailing events for 9 months of year for local/visiting sailors. Maintenance and stewardship of beach signs of status as a public amenity space.
