Title: OBJECTIONS
TO ADVERTISED TRAFFIC ORDERS
REPORT OF
THE STRATEGIC DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE AND ENVIRONMENT SERVICES
THE ISLE OF WIGHT COUNCIL (SCHOOL LANE, CARISBROOKE, IW)) (ONE WAY) ORDER No 1 2002
SUMMARY
An order to introduce A 6’6” width restriction and a one-way system was advertised in February 2002 and the following representations have been received to the one way proposals.
A total of 19 letters have been received. 18 of these are objecting to the proposed one way whilst there is 1 letter of support. The grounds for the objection are as follows:
The proposal will encourage drivers to drive at a higher speed. (3)
Parking is generally preferred on the east side of the road. The proposal would result in the driver’s door being against the adjacent wall or hedge and would make it impossible for the elderly and disabled to exit from their vehicle. (11)
The proposal would cause significant difficulty for vehicles whilst attempting to gain access from the adjacent private service road. (15)
The proposal would cause difficulty for residents with private off road parking facilities.
(5)
The proposal would result in vehicles having to circulate the area to obtain access to the opposite end the road. This would increase vehicle movements through Priory Road, Carisbrooke High Street and Waverley Cross Roads. (1)
EVALUATION
During December 2001 a petition was presented to the Head of Highways & Transportation from the Carisbrooke Forum requesting the introduction of a 6’ 6” width restriction in School Lane, Carisbrooke.
Soon after, the local member requested that a proposal to introduce a one-way restriction should also be advertised at the same time.
Although both proposals were advertised, there have been no objections to the introduction of a 6’ 6” width restriction. It would, however, appear that there is no local support for the one-way system.
POLICE COMMENTS
Hampshire
Constabulary has not provided any written comment on the matter.
That no
action is taken to introduce a one-way traffic Order in School Lane, but the
width restriction is implemented as advertised.
