The Brigade is on track to save money in this area and have up to date 3 new appointees at the rank of Fire Control Operator.
Performance with regard to best value indicators.
This is on track to achieve within the time frame. New technology in the form of an integrated command and control system (ICCS) will assist performance monitoring in this area.
Call handling.
The target for speed of response in answering calls is on track. New equipment in the form of an Integrated Command and Control system will be in place shortly which will be able to give even more precise call handling times for audit purposes.
Community Fire Safety Work.
Staff are involved in aftermath of fires in relation to possible arson with links with the Police and other agencies to reduce fires.
Geographical information Systems.
A bid for a GIS system has been placed this year as in previous years to facilitate the analysis of data to meet Operational needs and FAIRMaP.
Procurement strategy.
OUTCOME
This has been reviewed; the partnerships and consortiums are continuing and are awaiting Council Procurement Strategy.
Personal Protective Equipment for firefighters
The Brigade are now committed to the London Fire Brigade Consortium process for a ‘total care’ purchase bid for the replacement of Personal Protection Equipment which is on track at present.
Occupational Health Private Care Scheme
Some work done in this area but more work is required to form a business case. A review of the present arrangements with Occupational Health will be undertaken presently under FAIRMaP in 2004/5.

A revised strategy is currently underway to meet the needs of the community and FAIRMaP.

Targets to meet reduction in fire deaths, injuries and a reduction in fires
is under way in relation to a successful PSA grant.
Retained commitment and support for Community Fire Safety
Four stations have now been
trained to undertake Community Fire Safety initiatives for partnerships and
Home Fire Safety Checks. Further
training is underway to ensure the chip pan demonstration unit can be used on
all stations.
Extend Home Fire Safety Checks.
Good work is taking place in the Newport area and the scheme is now being taken into other areas of the Island once the stations have been trained to leaflet drop and follow up with referrals as necessary. A new partnership has been signed with South Wight Housing Association and other partnerships are planned in future to spread the Fire Safety Checks initiative.
Purchase equipment to carry out Home Fire Safety Checks.

A database has been considered and is being established at
this time for data to be recorded from CFS activities and operational links
with the Police following arson incidents.
Progress provision of educationalist
OUTCOME
The existing person in post evaluation has taken place
recently. Due to future needs
consideration is being given to the possibility of a wholetime post to enable
more to be achieved in the schools liaison and education initiatives.

Now on the run and has been used at various displays and
programmed to visit various parts of the Island community in 2003/4 and 2004/5.
