CRITERIA FOR FUTURE CCTV
- Consideration will be given to crime
‘hot spot’ areas; that is schemes in areas deemed to be higher in crime
than other areas within the Island
- Consideration will be given to schemes
that address the fear of crime, which must be evidence based
- Funding for the ongoing revenue cost of
any scheme must be established for a minimum three year period
- Is this the appropriate crime prevention
tool to achieve the desired results
Initial enquires
should be made to the Crime and Disorder Team and some assistance will be given
to establish some of the points detailed below:
- Clarify the type of scheme proposed and
the nature of the target area
- Indicate the nature and extent of crime
problems and the source of data
- Show the crime reduction and other
benefits the applicant expects to be delivered by CCTV and what crime
reduction targets
- Show how the CCTV system will contribute
to achieving the current Isle of Wight Crime and Disorder Strategy targets
- Identify the proposed partners in the
scheme and the financial or other supporting contribution contributed by
each
- Indicate the public consultation
undertaken or planned to ensure public support for the scheme
Additional
information required if proposal is likely to proceed:
- Camera types; (monochrome/colour;
fixed/mobile; dome; pan/tilt/zoom, etc)
- Housings for the cameras detailing
arrangements for wash/wipe: heating/de-misting etc.
- Operational parameters of the cameras;
- Specification for all the proposed
equipment;
- Type, method and frequency of recording;
- Lighting (in lux) required to produce
images appropriate to the purpose of observation and how this will be
achieved
- Transmission arrangements for the
proposed scheme (i.e. microwave/radio wave/ fibre/ ISDN etc.), including
details about bandwidth, picture quality/image update rate:
- Security or protection for the equipment
- Performance test procedures for the
system
- Satisfies legislated requirements
including any permissions by landowner or the Council
If the above has
been carried out and the scheme approved the Crime and Disorder Manager will
assist the applicant with identifying funding streams to bid for and assist
with the application.
