Title : REVIEW OF THE CRIME AND DISORDER STRATEGY 2002-5

REPORT OF THE HEAD OF PAID SERVICE

SUMMARY/PURPOSE

To review the current Isle of Wight Crime and Disorder Strategy 2002-5.

BACKGROUND

The draft Crime and Disorder Strategy 2002-5 was presented to Fire and Public Safety Select Committee on the 4^th February 2002. Following this, it was referred to the Executive Committee on the 12^th March 2002, and adopted by Full Council on 20^th March 2002 (see attached Appendix A for the approved Strategy).

LEGAL IMPLICATIONS

Under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, the Council has a statutory duty to work in partnership with the Police to reduce crime and disorder.

Under Section 17 of that Act the Council has a statutory duty to consider the crime and disorder implications in all its decision making.

RECOMMENDATION

That the Select Committee consider how the Council can effectively deliver this Strategy.
