SUMMARY/PURPOSE

 

To review the current Isle of Wight Crime and Disorder Strategy 2002-5.

 

BACKGROUND

 

The draft Crime and Disorder Strategy 2002-5 was presented to Fire and Public Safety Select Committee on the 4th February 2002.  Following this, it was referred to the Executive Committee on the 12th March 2002, and adopted by Full Council on 20th March 2002 (see attached Appendix A for the approved Strategy).

LEGAL IMPLICATIONS

 

Under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, the Council has a statutory duty to work in partnership with the Police to reduce crime and disorder. 

 

Under Section 17 of that Act the Council has a statutory duty to consider the crime and disorder implications in all its decision making.

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

That the Select Committee consider how the Council can effectively deliver this Strategy.
